HISTORY
Family: Blackheart [father, elder] - Mousefoot [mother, deceased through natural causes] - Squirreltail [sister, not played]
History: Kithood
Shrewkit was born on a relatively normal day in the middle of New-Leaf. His parents were fairly old by the time they mated, so them actually having kits came as quite a surprise. Shrewkit was the oldest of a litter of three, Squirrelkit being the next, and a unnamed kit being born last. The unnamed kit didn't make it long at all in the world. But the parents didn't mourn long, they focused on their two living kits with loving hearts. Both Shrewkit and Squirrelkit grew like any other kits would, though soon it was obvious that Squirrelkit would inherit her mother's build, and be lanky and skinny.
For their first six moons the two were a lively pair. The best of friends and easily got along with the other kits in the nursery at the time. One kit in particular latched on to the pair quickly. His name was Crowkit, the runt of a litter, and the only one in the litter to actually survive. Despite being a full moon older than Shrewkit and Squirrelkit, Crowkit was much, much smaller than both of them. As they aged, the three were nearly inseparable, and spent their days and nights playing with moss and each other. Crowkit began Crowpaw at six moons, but only a short moon later Shrewpaw and Squirrelpaw joined him in the apprentice den.
Apprenticeship
Shrewpaw was apprenticed to a rather young warrior named Silverflower. The two got on pretty well, making firm advancements in Shrewpaw's training. He was rather upset that he had gotten a first time mentor while both Crowkit and Squirrelkit were apprenticed to old, wise warriors. But he never brought it up to anyone, and instead began critiquing himself much like how he heard the older warriors critique their apprentices. Silverflower would never say anything harsh to him, and often it felt like he was swimming in a shallow pond, not moving anywhere.
Eventually, Shrewpaw got over his hesitation with Silverflower, and began actually learning from the kind she-cat. She taught him hunting mostly, as she was small for a warrior, and didn't have much skills in the way of fighting. But he learned the basics with her, and tagged along with Squirrelpaw's mentor to learn the more advanced ways of fighting. Life went smoothly from there, the clans were in relative peace and nothing more than a short skirmish broke out. Really, Shrewpaw was never scripted into a battle during his apprenticehood. Once he fought against a ThunderClan patrol (with other RiverClan cats, of course) when one of their warriors took a few steps too many over the border. But other than that, life was peaceful.
Until Crowpaw died. The apprentice had been hunting too close to the ThunderClan border at one point, and a snake, hidden in the undergrowth, lashed out and bit the apprentice. Crowpaw managed to make it back to camp, but died of an infection in the wound before the snake's venom even could take him. Shrewpaw was devastated, not just because of his friend's death, but because Squirrelpaw seemed to not be shaken by it at all. The she-cat had grown cold over the moons.
From then on Shrewpaw hardly spoke to his sister, preferring to spend his time with Silverflower and learn how to be the best apprentice he could, for both he and Crowpaw. Finally, on his thirteenth moon, Shrewpaw was given his warrior name, and joined the ranks of the warriors as Shrewclaw for the skill in battle he had shown. To his pleasure, Squirrelpaw wasn't given her name for a few moons more.
Warrior
Fresh out of apprenticeship, Shrewclaw wasn't prepared for the many battles that would occur in his earliest moons as a warrior. First he joined in clan in the Battle of the River against ThunderClan, fighting just as fiercely as any other warrior who participated. RiverClan won, of course, but it wasn't a perfect win. Cats still had doubts about how ThunderClan would treat the river from then on, especially Shrewclaw. He was constantly patrolling that area himself, waiting for the slightest hint of ThunderClan straying over the border. To his dismay, it never happened.
Shortly after that, Shrewclaw join in the Battle of the Moor. The tom had never really liked the fact that cats took from WindClan. Despite how long ago the cats had been chased out. Even if Shrewclaw had not been alive to see WindClan, the idea of four clans instead of three was just more... perfect. Something about the idea made Shrewclaw reluctant to fight for the territory, but he did, deciding it was better to ignore his preferences and fight for his clan. Secretly, he was glad when the battle ended in truce.
From then everything seemed peaceful. Shrewclaw went about as a normal warrior, slowly growing to prefer the cover of darkness over the sun. He spent long hours hunting a training alone, rarely spending time with his clanmates and definitely not making any friends. Honestly, the only cat he continued to talk to was Silverflower, his old mentor. She had been given another apprentice, but still made time for Shrewclaw and his odd habits. Shrewclaw himself was never given a young cat to mentor, and even now he doesn't have an apprentice. Perhaps that's a good thing, he'll say to himself. As he could never train an apprentice the right way.
Shrewclaw wasn't present for the Second Battle at Fourtrees, but he was glad he wasn't. Sure, it was good to know that RiverClan had won. But still the thought of a forest with four clans lingered in the tabby's mind. More often now he would actually join patrols to hunt in WindClan's territory, imagining what it would be like to live in the wide, open area. Shrewclaw had never like the confines of trees and bushes, and could hardly imagine how ThunderClan could stand it. But WindClan's open territory? Well, it was almost perfect in Shrewclaw's mind. All it was missing was a clan.
Recently Shrewclaw has been spending more time with other cats, if only to get their opinions on WindClan. He doesn't make a big deal of it, and usually just sits around and listens, occasionally making his own remark or two. The warrior still spends long hours a day hunting and training, and he doubts he'll ever stop. In fact, he can't stop, or else he'll lose what makes him him, and that would be perfect in Shrewclaw's book.
RP SAMPLE
"Just relax, Graypaw. There is no need to freak out over what you said. It was a perfectly reasonable question, one that I often ask myself sometimes." He watched the apprentice flounder around in his mind for a moment. However, Barkfur found no joy in watching the tom cat struggle for words that hardly made sense or try to apologize in the most pathetic of ways. No, Graypaw said nothing wrong and did not need to mess with his own head like this. "Do not beat yourself down for it, alright? Let us just keep moving, we're almost to the river where we can break for a moment before continuing along the RiverClan border."
Already now Barkfur could feel the grass getting wetter. The river could not be far off anymore, though one could not rely on sound and feeling in such a cold time like this. Only sight was worth following at the moment. "And no, surely you don't expect to become a warrior just by following around with other apprentices and their mentors? Not only will you distract them, but you won't get the full mentoring you need. I have no quarrels with mentoring you, and I do have time to spare for an apprentice. There is no arguing in this Graypaw." He shot a soft grin to the apprentice, wanting to assure the other that he was not being harsh.
