GENERAL
Name: Blacktail
Name Explanation: Black; partial coloring. Tail; black tail
Gender: Tom
Age: 68 moons
Clan: ThunderClan
Rank: Senior Warrior
APPEARANCE
Body Type: Stocky
Fur: Predominately white, with a black patch on left shoulder and over face, and a black tail
Eyes: amber
Markings: Black patch on left shoulder/over face, black tail
Overall: Blacktail can mostly be described as stocky. He is not short, really, but average-sized, with thick muscles that make him a less-than-ideal runner/swimmer/climber/hunter, but a terribly powerful opponent in battle. His fur is predominately white, with a few black patches and a long, black tail, for which he was named. Amber eyes gaze forth from his face, and these same eyes can hold great happiness and terrible fury.
PERSONALITY
Positive Traits:
- Mellow;; reasonably good trait. It takes a lot to get Blacktail fired up, and he is normally quite a mellow, easy-to-be-around cat.
- Down-to-earth;; age and experience have made it so that Blacktail rarely gets excited about new things or jumps on a bandwagon of "this season is going to be amazing!" and "we're so much better than ShadoweClan!" He lets the younger warriors have their fun, but in his mind he believes things rarely change as much as a cat would think, and something expected to be "awesome" often disappoints.
- Protective/Responsible;; Blacktail has always been protective of younger cats, even when he was an elder apprentice looking after younger apprentices. His protectiveness carried on to his single kit, Coldpaw (who is now Coldstar), and for the longest time Blacktail couldn't compute the fact that his son was growing up.
- Amiable;; naturally, Blacktail is rather friendly. He likes to tell stories, and will make a good Elder when the time comes...something he does not fear like some warriors, but rather looks forward to.
Flaws:
- Overly-ferocious in battle;; moons of experience have not stemmed the ferocity experienced in Blacktail's mind on the battlefield. He goes too far in almost every fight, his huge bulk a mass of nearly unstoppable power (or was when he was younger). Bloodlust runs so strong in him that he'd just as soon kill an enemy in battle.
- Seeks out battles;; it feels so good to him to be angry. To be furious and ferocious and to let everything go. So he volunteers for every patrol, even in his current age, in hopes that he could become part of a battle that would allow his bloodlust to arise and swamp all the rest of his personality.
- Not very fun;; though friendly and normally rather nice, Blacktail is not very excitable or playful. He never was, really. He's always been too responsible to be playful, so he never built terribly strong relationships with cats his age.
- Circumstantially Lazy;; such as, he is terrible at hunting, so he rarely goes out to hunt. He doesn't like working on fortifying the camp or training apprentices. Really, all he likes to do is hang around camp or go on patrols.
Fears:
- Water;; for a cat who sucks at swimming as much as he does, this is understandable.
- Open spaces;; he's at a terrible disadvantage against smaller, swifter cats. Therefore, he hates the very idea of the moorlands or any WindClan cats.
- Rabbits;; no real reason for this...he just does.
Quirks:
- Shares tongues with Coldstar almost every morning--if they miss it, he sulks.
- Bats around a mouse before eating it.
- Likes to watch his solid black tail shift across the ground.
Ideals: Level-headedness. At least, in most situations. In everyday Clan life, Blacktail respects those who can keep a cool head and figure things out calmly. Battle, however, is a different matter entirely.
Protectiveness;; he doesn't appreciate cats who do not feel protective towards their Clan/family/etc.
Overall: On first meeting, without knowing of Blacktail's unstoppable fury in battle, a cat would think he was rather ordinary and dull, albeit friendly. He works very hard on patrols, but not so hard in or around camp, and so a cat would also assume him to be rather lazy. Because he doesn't get excited about anything, they'd see him as level-headed and calm, but also perhaps dull and uninteresting. Were they to see him as he stared at his flicking tail, they'd find him to be air-headed...which is not at all the case. Those who know him, however, know him to be a friendly, calm, mellow cat who enjoys talking to others and is extremely protective of his Clan...if a little dull and too interested in fighting.
HISTORY
Family: Coldstar--son. Cloudpelt--mate *deceased* Mother--Midnightclaw *decased*. Father--Icestorm*decased*
History:Kithood--apprenticeship
At a young age, Blacktail was commended for his huge bulk and clear strength. As a kit he always won the wrestling matches, and he was the favorite apprentice for a long time. Much attention was given him by his mentor, the older warriors, and his leader, and this truly gave Blacktail a horrid personality when he was younger. He was prideful, arrogant, and rude to others.
His mentor was a harsh, bulky tomcat named Bearfang. However harsh he was, however, it was not harsh enough to stem the truly arrogant personality seeping its way into Blackpaw's demeanor. The successful, vigorous lessons in battle training far made up for his failures in hunting training, at least in Blackpaw's mind, and Blacktail truly was disliked by many of the other apprentices his aged.
Even so, there was a part of Blackpaw that was always protective. Though less than friendly to the cats around his age, he was very protective and thoughtful towards the kits and much younger apprentices, to the point where he seemed to be a totally different cat around them. He'd not let anyone beat up on a young apprentice, even if it meant getting into a fight himself.
Warriorhood
Blackpaw truly wanted a fierce name. Blackstorm, or Blackclaw, or Blackfang would have been lovely, but instead he received Blacktail. Perhaps his leader saw fit to give hi ma less-than-vicious name in order to perhaps stem his pride and arrogance. Perhaps.
In any case, Blacktail took part in his first battle at 23 moons--the Battle at Sandy Hollow. He threw himself into the battle with total fury and excitement, and it was here that he first discovered his love of fighting...and the way he could lose himself in it. In fact, this was the moment when he began to realize that he didn't have to go around being abrasive and arrogant...he could just prove himself when he fought. And that was what he did.
Even as Blacktail fought more, going on more patrols, taking part in border scraps and fights against foxes, his personality began to mellow out. It was as if he'd found an outlet for his pride and arrogance, and he didn't need to use it in everyday life anymore. This truly was greatly appreciated by the others of the Clan.
In fact, it led way to a great relationship with Cloudpelt. They had been kind of flirting together for awhile, and before Blacktail's personality began to change, she was already pregnant with their one kit. His relationship with Cloudpelt took another part in curbing his arrogance and pride, and mellowed him out more than ever. And then...Coldkit was born.
The little kit should not have survived, but he did. Blacktail had never been so protective inhis life. He even stayed out of the Battle at Sunningrocks in order to protect the camp, for fear that his kit might be harmed if the foolish RiverClanners attacked. He later began to regret this, as ThunderClan lost the battle.
In any case, Coldkit was the center of Blacktail's life. He understood not being able to mentor him, and truly approved of Stonetooth doing it. Stonetooth would give him good battle training, but he could also teach him to hunt, which Blacktail would have failed at. As as a result, he felt no problem with the match.
Of course, until the whole drama happened. Which I'll skip. All I can say is he was very proud of his son.
Throughout the rest of his life, Blacktail was realy mostly just interested in Coldpaw, who became Coldstripe, who is now Coldstar. Throughout fatherhood and continued battles, such as the Second Battle at Sunningrocks (which he was very proud to take part in) and the Battle at Snakerocks and Second Battle at Fourtrees, Blacktail's personality continued to mellow out, so that he was eventually nothing like his younger self. A little bit more boring, just as circumstantially lazy, but at least not nearly so proud and arrogant. Nah, his pride is for his son now ^.^
