GENERAL
Name: Brightbird
Name Explanation: Bright; golden patches on otherwise dark fur. Bird; slight build and chirp-like meow, as well as a tendency to flee.
Gender: She-cat
Age: 29 moons.
Clan: ShadowClan.
Rank: Warrior.
APPEARANCE
Body Type: Small and slight.
Fur: Tortoiseshell, black and gold.
Eyes: Stunning yellow.
Markings: Most notably, a golden chest and face. Scar along her left flank.
Overall: Brightbird’s appearance makes a lot of sense with her name. Her coat is that dark background of most tortoiseshell cats, while the other color is gold (which can also look ginger in some light) that is mottled and dappled randomly throughout her pelt. It looks like her coat was originally yellow, only covered up imperfectly with black. While most of it is mixed, she has a distinct pale splotch on her chest and along her face, from her nose to where her eyebrows would be; half of her nose, likewise, is pink and the other half black. Her eyes are a gorgeous yellow color. Her build is small, leaving her extremely fast, agile, but also extremely fragile and easily knocked around.
PERSONALITY
Positive Traits:
- Helpful → She is generally helpful and will assist anyone in need (if she thinks they’re worthy of help, which is a different story). She has a reputation of being friendly among those who like her. If you need a quick favor, seeing her would be a good idea, providing you keep in mind she’ll want a favor back sometime.
- Approachable → If you can withstand her teasing, she’ll hear out any issues you might have and attempt to comfort you or talk you through them. She doesn’t judge others and is open-minded, so there’s no worry of being rejected if you want to chat.
- Pacifist → She hates violence and fighting and chooses to eliminate it; even during battles, she’ll do her best to end the conflict without clawing someone. She hopes for a peaceful existence in the future.
- Compassionate → Her compassion is deep, her brand love knowing no bounds, but usually this kindness is only reserved for those that she feels are wronged by society. Cripples and the elderly are high on her list of priorities, and she cares deeply for them. The few best friends she has can sometimes find themselves the object of this kindness as well.
Flaws:
- Cowardly → Going along with her pacifism, sometimes not fighting requires her simply running away. She avoids conflict like the worst of them, slinking into the shadows out of fear. She will even refuse to stick up for her friends if it requires fighting; running away is her answer to everything, even personal and emotional conflicts. She will not face a threat head-on.
- Demeaning → She assigns pet names to just about everyone; cats are always a “sweetheart” or “dear” or something else. She has an odd brand of chivalry, the kind that feminist she-cats resent in toms, only it’s extended to anyone she feels is lesser than her. This makes her hated among young cats or the males that she less than likes.
- Arrogant → What she says is always right. She’s a huge know-it-all, and a very opinionated one. She thinks that she is better than just about anyone else, with few exceptions. This makes her enemies quickly when no one wants to put up with her narcissism.
- Selfish → She puts herself above anyone else; it’s her greatest flaw. If she has the option of rescuing a friend from some deadly situation or saving her own fur, she will choose herself every time. She also refuses to get close to people, so that betraying them for her self-interests won’t sting as much. It’s also a part of her cowardice.
Fears: Romantic or any other kind of intimacy. Close spaces.
Quirks: Meows in a bird-like way. Often sleeps outside or has to get away from others because of her claustrophobia.
Ideals: Herself and self-preservation. She loves cats who mind their own business as well.
Overall: When it comes down to first impressions, other cats see Brightbird as a friendly, outgoing member of the Clan who can be helpful as long as she gets assisted in return. Her compassion for the sick or the elderly is respected among others. She seems like a great friend—but then you see the real feline buried underneath the carefree mask. She is extremely selfish and puts herself above everything—her Clan, her friends, everything. She is also an extreme coward and always avoids conflicts even if it means a complete lack of honor. Overall, she’s a very flawed cat.
HISTORY
Family: Nightfog (black), father. Dappledmouse, (tortoiseshell), mother. Spiderkit (black), brother. Darkwhisker (black), sister. Redtooth (ginger), brother.
History: Brightbird was born to two inconsequential warriors of the Clan, in a fairly large litter of four kittens. Shortly after they were named, however, one of the sons died from lack of nutrition as not all of the kits could be well fed during the greenleaf they were born in. However, the other three grew up stronger as the mild drought passed and great times were upon them again. When they were six moons old, their lives were average for that of apprentices; her own apprentice days were slightly tougher, and she became one of the cats that was punished for sassing her mentor. Her cowardice also came in flashes, and she missed her opportunity at her first battle, where she ran away and hid instead of participating.
Her ascent to a warrior took longer than that of the other apprentices, but eventually she made it when she finally proved herself capable of fighting in a small border scuffle, where her fear turned into instinctive fighting once she was cornered. However, she lied her way into making this glorified, and she was presented her warrior name. After that, life was normal again, except for two significant events that shaped her personality.
Her sister, Darkwhisker, was blinded when bitten by a serpent. No one knew how she survived, just assuming that StarClan was looking out for her. However, to the other warriors she was an outcast rather than a miracle. She was condemned to the elder’s den, and the apprentices were afraid of her, the she-cat who could tell no stories of ancient time and was spooked whenever they approached. Brightbird was the only cat who genuinely cared about the crippled feline, and she stayed by her side until finally Darkwhisker passed away due to illness, defending her actions and even fighting those who taunted her which was out of character for her.
The second event was the advances that her former mentor, a scarred tom named Rat-tail, made on her. He loved her deeply, but she rejected his advances after a short fling with him, where she realized she just wanted to be a free cat—that and she knew that she would end up breaking his heart with her cowardly ways. Not wanting to hurt his feelings, she avoided him, but eventually he grew angry and pressed her back against a rock formation, demanding why she did what she did. This only made her more hateful toward those in love. She resents prolonged physical contact unless she initiates it and definitely resents the idea of being romantic with anyone.
