Here at Downfall to Paradise, we believe in traditional names. (So if you wish to use a character named Cursedsoul or Dragonfury, please leave the room. Also, this is assuming you understand how warrior names work, with a prefix and suffix. If not, feel free to ask the staff questions.)
We will begin with the prefix, the first part of a name that a warrior obtains when they are a kit. When they are a kit, what do they have to be named by? Not their personality, not their eye color, because they are too young to walk and talk or have their eyes open. They should be named for pelt color or a distinct build. For instance, a runt may become Smallkit, or a lankier little fellow Longkit. A grey kit may be Ashkit, Fogkit, Stonekit, Greykit, Mistkit—the possibilities are endless.
The suffixes may be a body part or end in something that denotes the character’s personality. Heart generally means their spirit or soul, while storm shows a strong personality. (Think Fireheart and Sandstorm.) It might also denote speed (wind, flight) or affinity with herbs (flower, berry). If you can use common sense and not give us a name like Featherstone or Icefire, we can be fairly lenient with the suffixes as long as they still describe the cat.
Now that I’ve given you some examples, here is a list of things not to use.
Human terms are obvious. Cats do not know what guns, chemicals, swords, or mythological creatures are. Even seasons are not allowed as they are known as other names, so Winterheart is completely out. Gem names are also probably not good ideas, though I do not see why someone would be born “Sapphirekit” anyway. A few exceptions exist though, such as Onyx or other stones that a cat would be more likely to encounter than true precious gems. Angels and demons and spirits and souls are also not in the mythology of the cats.
“Evil” or “emo” names are also not allowed. We should see no cats named “Deathfang” or “Shatteredtears.” Warrior names are about honor and respect, and what mother would name their kit after blood, death, evil, or infinite sorrow? No one would wish that upon their child and upon a future warrior of the Clan.
Emotions are not good for names, because as a kitten they are not developed, so “Gentleflower” is completely out. Imagine your surprise when tiny Quietkit grows up to be rambunctious and anything but silent! Also out are physical actions like running or pouncing, as all kits do that and it’s not something to judge a warrior on until later.
Also, the names of the clans cannot be used as prefixes—no Shadowclaw or Riverstripe; we will allow you to use them as suffixes. "Wind" falls under this category as well.
As a note, your cats' apprentice and kit names don't necessarily have to make sense. They can be named for what their warrior name will be, not something that goes nice and lovely with kit and paw. For example: Onepaw and Longpaw sound stupid, but Onewhisker and Longtail are good names.
If you do not know what is acceptable or not, just ask!
